An oddity -- interesting for pick-up reading, but not intended to be read straight through. A book to lend color to a serious course of reading on English poetry. Anecdotes arranged topically -- love, hobbies, walking, disease, conceit and vanity, etc. etc. The author sets up his thesis and proceeds to prove his points by selecting what he wants for the purpose. As a source book, to be used with other balancing material, it is excellent. Interesting -- in spots. Authoritative -- presumably so. Incredible number of poets included.
