The battle of Clontarf in Ireland was the culmination of a conflict between the disciples of Thor and the believers in Christianity. Led by their soldier-king Brian, it was at this battle that Christianity finally triumphed among the Irish, won by the lives of many brave men, not the least of whom was the King himself. In this story of Niall, a boy, half-Irish, half Norse, his rise to warrior- bard and finally to princehood, the history of the early Celts and the spirit of a vigorous warrior society is strikingly conveyed. Of particular interest to Catholic readers, this book has, nonetheless, a universal appeal.
