REVOLUTION IN LAND

This book is, in the last analysis, much more than a book on land and the changing place it takes in the American picture. First, there is an historical survey of the various phases of the land question, from early throwing off the yoke of the English system, through the homesteading phase, to the boom days of the war and its aftermath -- all background for the collapse of land values and the problem of the over-expansion of the farmers. Then the balancing of urban and rural development, the changes in ownership and tenancy relations, the various measures used by the New Deal to palliate the crying needs. The good sides and the bad -- objectively appraised. The existing proposals and the possible futures of housing and land utilization analyzed, and the presentation of what the author considers the way out. As consultant to the U.S. Housing Authority, he speaks from a practical as well as a theoretical experience. Again a book for a special market -- but first rate in its field.
