KIRKUS REVIEW

The reader will have a pretty definite idea what religion isn't, and a pretty clear idea of what religion might be, if a complete reconstruction of our religious ideals and organizations were possible. One of the most provocative books anyone interested will come across, yet it isn't shocking or sensational, or lacking sound arguments and facts. These lectures formed the Lyman Beecher series this year at Yale, and are bound to beckon to students, clergy and the intelligentsia, but the layman will be able to enjoy the way spades are called spades, too.
