It's a change in element from this author's many books about outer space investigations (Project Apollo, Rockets, Missiles and Moons, etc.) but carried out with the same clear, readable explanations. The approach to the multi-faceted study of oceanography is a practical one, emphasizing the uses of the ocean and the various devices that have been used to probe it. The final chapter is about ""Oceanography as a Career"" and, while the rest of the book does not deal with career information, there is a strong emphasis on the type of work oceanography entails. The book is profusely illustrated with photographs and charts which help to support the text, although some of the pictures are undersized, unclear, or poorly captioned. The subject surveyed here is a very broad one, but the author has dredged the important aspects.
