KIRKUS REVIEW

In his introduction Mr. Coombs says the sound of the train whistle will never cease to lure the imagination. And so, his imagination lured to the standardized lengths it usually is (see Young Readers Baseball Stories, Young Readers Sports Stories etc for others in the series), he offers some stout tales of boy track heroes. Eddie, whose father is a chief dispatcher, gets some rail legs himself when he helps prevent a rockslide crash; young Grant handles a depot and helps with a fire on the mountain run. Different settings give country-wide appeal.
