JESUS THE CHRIST

This book consists of excerpts from the Biblical account of the life of Christ selected to accompany a series of drawings of Jesus Christ by Charles Cullen. The book is to be judged by its artistic value rather than its religious message. Many of the world's greatest artists have rendered religion a disservice by their portrayal of the Christ as an ethereal, other-worldly Being with little of the human reality which the gospel story gives to him. Mr. Cullen's portrayal of the Christ repeats this misinterpretation. His Christ is weak, sentimental and sad, a ghostlike wraith come to earth for a while. In the technical aspects of the artist's work many will no doubt find much to admire.
