KIRKUS REVIEW

Picture book format but the story is too old for the picture book age, hence its inclusion under this Read Aloud classification. A ten year old Chinese lad overhears his uncle planning to sell his little sister as soon as their mother dies. The mother sends them off, knowing she is dying, to the convent at Lo-Ting where she was raised as a Christian. This is the story of their journey. Not an important book but there is a place for various aspects of Chinese life and this is new. The translation of the Chinese characters in the glossary is a novel feature.
