JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY Hoosier Poet

Another excellent biography from the author of The Gay Poet: Eugene Field in a somewhat fictionized story of the Indian poet, beloved by his own people, claimed by children everywhere, even as Stevenson is claimed. An authentic picture of an Indians boyhood, with the feel of the period and the background; a success story, of a lad who spitomized the rolling stone, who was in and out of jobs, but who -- bit by bit -- built for himself a place in the nation's roster of poets. There's a very human picture of the man and his work, which reads like a good boy's story.
