A PASTORAL TRIUMPH

This is a study of the life and work of Richard Barter with especial emphasis upon his pastoral ministry in his parish at Kidderminster. Richard Barter is chiefly remembered, if at all, because of the part that he played in the religious and political controversies which raged in England in the days of Cromwell. The author highlights the remarkable work accomplished by Baxter with individuals and with families. While Baxter's religious ideas and his methods of work would scarcely fit into the program of a modern minister, nevertheless, the author contends and, rightly, that Baxter's insistence upon the importance of work with individuals and upon performing this ministry in accordance with a definite plan constitutes a much needed lesson for the minister of today. With all of the emphasis today upon personal counseling this book should be widely welcomed by Protestant clergymen.
