NOTHING BUT DANGER

Accounts of ten British and American newspaper correspondents on the war in Spain, graduates in the academy of understatement, these have the clarity and lack of verbosity of the best reporting. Written in retrospect, the strong nationalist bias is very apparent and the stories more tragic. Surprisingly varied themes -- the ""death watch"" in Madrid, a commentary on the dangers run by British merchants daring the Fascist blockade, civilian routs, the day-to-day existence of a correspondent's wife, etc. Not top drawer, but better than average journalist stuff.
