Here is a well documented biography of Thomas MacDonough, an American Naval hero, who during the War of 1812 defeated the British fleet in the Battle of Lake Champlain. In his early thirties the Delaware born officer was put in command of the American naval forces on Lake Champlain. A period of hardship and difficulty both from unrest within his ranks and from external controversy plagued the young Lieutenant, but despite overwhelming obstacles he successfully engaged in a naval battle which once and for all ended the threat of invasion from Canada. Heavily fictionalized, this should have a special appeal to readers who like their American history well supported with dramatic device.
