GUNS IN THE WILDERNESS

A single-track historical adventure which, although giving no extra premiums in characterization or developed incident, reads straight and fast. Young Jeff Goffe, a grandson of General William Goffe, a member of the Parliamentary Army under Oliver Cromwell, found that, with the return of Charles II, his fortune and that of his uncle were in serious danger. After many close escapes from the King's men, Jeff, a faithful Scotsman, and Jeff's uncle escape to America where the uncle is killed in an attempt to reach William Goffe in exile, Jeff narrowly misses death in King Philip's war, and is united with his grandfather. Based on a legend concerning William Goffe and his brave acts in the New World.
