THE WORLD ALOFT

Pub Date: May 5th, 1960
Publisher: Houghton, Mifflin

Based on the Book-of-the-Month Club selection, Song of the Sky (1955), this is an account, rich in fact, of the world of the airman. Every factor which enters into the life of the airman--weather, birds, clouds, navigation, stars, time concepts, molecular reaction to speed, the sound barrier--are lucidly examined by the ex navigator. Guy Murchie's prose is colorful and vivid. He conveys swiftly his own sense of awe as a member of that group of men who have in physical terms approached the point at which infinity becomes conspicuous. The World Aloft is of primary interst to all readers concerned with the scientific investigation of the world, and without compromising its scope or exactitude, is also of interest to general readers.
