A highly recommended collection of true stories about some of the nation's earliest builders. The best known incidents such as Paul Revere's ride and the battles of Lexington and Concord are included as well as such little known events as: the battle of Salem in which no shot was fired; the frontier Revolutionary contributions of Maine and New Hampshire: the story of how Knox transported a cannon through 300 miles of wilderness; and how the new nation wrested the pepper trade from the Dutch and English. Some of the side issues and larger aspects of colorful history are presented in interesting detail. Boys and girls especially interested in history will enjoy this.
