The 898 extracts in this anthology have been chosen from books appearing since 1900, although it includes also selections from Melville, Tolstoy and James. The contents are organized under topics alphabetically arranged, beginning with ""Age"" and running through ""America,"" ""Compromise,"" ""Example,"" ""Heart,"" ""Martyr,"" ""Pity,"" ""Success,"" ""Work,"" to ""Youth""--naming only a few at random. Excerpts have been culled from every type of literature--prose, drama, poetry, biography--and from a wide roster of authors. For the speaker or preacher who finds such a compilation a helpful resource, this volume should prove useful. It may even, in some instances, send the reader to the original for a fuller understanding of the passage in its context.
