Continuing the New Look for First Books and dropping the series designation, this is a complete revamping of Lineaweaver's earlier survey-and librarians will be glad on both scores. First there's a general characterization of the country, then a very brief political history pointed toward confederation and concluding with a quick glimpse of government. The main body of the book is an examination of each province and territory, primarily its economic and physical geography, with attention to such expectables as fishing, lumbering, the Mounties and Eskimos in the appropriate place. It closes with seven short biographies of famous Canadians, suggestions of things to see and miscellaneous facts. Almost half the book is photographs, generally informative and always sharply reproduced. Sensibly planned to support school assignments, this is still sufficiently interesting for the random reader.
