THE MESSAGE OF THE BIBLE

It is a welcome commonplace to say that the Bible is being read today more eagerly than at any other time in our generation. The corollary is not that it is being more intelligently read. Dr. Chas. Layman, currently editor of adult publications of the Board of Education of the Methodist Church, has long been an eager promoter of Bible study groups, and has written much to help them make their adventures more profitable. The Message of the Bible is fashioned to help close the gap between mere reading and understanding reading. His major concern is to show how the Bible is set apart from other writings because it is to be understood as a book of salvation whose message is primarily the work of God in history for man's redemption. He makes this repeatedly clear as he introduces each part of the Bible for study, and sends his readers back to the Bible to read the record for themselves with keener appreciation of its eternal message. Bible classes will find this book highly valuable and because of its reasonable price individuals will want their own copies.
