LETTERS FROM A HEADMASTER'S STUDY

The total effect of this series of letters to parents of the boys who are students at St. Alban's School, Washington, D. C., where the Rev. Charles Martin is headmaster, is to make the reader wish he had a son to send to St. Albans! Dr. Martin covers almost all of the problems faced by teachers and parents as they seek to make their boys strong in mind, body, and character, and too the problems the boys face as they seek acceptance and understanding from their parents and teachers. He does it in a warm, homely, but extremely literate style that reveals his own warmth and understanding of those committed to his charge. There is an abundance of illustrative incidents which highlight the point he is trying to make in each letter, whether it be on academic standards, athletic participation, social behavior, discipline, religion or the purpose of education. Parents reading the book,- as they should -- will understand their own children better. Each subject dealt with is given a brief and apt Christian orientation and setting, and there is an appropriate prayer with each letter. Headmasters of boys' schools everywhere should read this appealing book, and then urge their parents to do likewise.
