DON'T WAIT UP FOR SPRING

A terse yet tender style for the story of Harry and Barbara's wartime love. Young and sure, proud of their civilized attitudes, the realization of what they value comes slowfully, painfully as they are parted by the war. Harry is a playwright and Barbara, southern, gilded, is leading lady for his one production -- a flop. They live together, have a gay, gallant time before he joins the U.S.N.R., and marry on his graduation from the training at Columbia University. Barbara has an abortion and Harry lands in Africa, fights, is captured, and injured on his return to his ship. In New York, he finds Barbara, lost, hurt and with another man in tow, but Harry heals the break, with understanding and love. Nice job.
