The box turtle lives in armor -- so reads the complete title. Turtles are early favorites, for children who live in the country encounter various kinds of land turtles and water turtles. This is a factual account of how a box turtle lays its eggs -- and what happens to them; of the slow motion round of living, of the dangers and the protection the ""armor"" provides, of other creatures of the reptile world that are around us in the country, - lizards, salamanders, snakes, frogs, and so on. A sound book of observation at the child level, with suggestions for care of turtles as pets. The illustrations by Jane Castle are lively and informative. This is designed for the budding naturalist, and the age appeal is whenever the interest is aroused- at a second and third year reading level. These Life Science books are accurate and entertaining.
