KIRKUS REVIEW

The new state of Israel and the events which led to its formation are given a superficial glance in this text, illustrated by Kathleen Elgin. Although the facts regarding the kibbutzim, the major cities, the Zionist founders, are essentially here one feels that Charles Joy has in no way reflected the temper of the Jewish State and the circumstances which motivated its formation. Considering that Israel is a country founded on intense idealism, there is a singular dryness in this text, which, despite its factual fullness does not communicate the essential qualities of that country and its origins.
