Well known for his literary efforts in strengthening mutual understanding, the author now concentrates his attention and ours on such crucial areas as Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Singapore in this companion volume to Yung People of the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Mediterranean. In intimate biographical sketches, children from these lands tell about their families, social customs, activities, religions, games and schools. Many of their lives have been affected or entirely altered by the intense political struggles in their countries, thus we are allowed a glimpse of life in Communist China, from those who escaped it, and of readjustment of refugees from North Korea. The heterogeneous character of these cultures will undoubtedly impress American children who may be inspired to forge further alliance through their reading and awakened interest. The informal personal touch is the distinguishing factor here.
