Well written, close dissection of human lives, but unpleasant reading, this psychological probe of a group forced into intimacy by a bigwig, newspaper and magazine publisher, at his camp in New Hampshire. Hamilton leaves his guests while he goes off on a hinge with a blonde, and the whole ill-assorted muddle blows skyhigh. This could have been high farce, but is instead scalpel-incised revelation of undercurrent motives, hidden, unrecognized, unadmitted. Libraries, beware.
