As a professor in a theological seminary, lecturer at preachers' conferences and parish priest, the author has had many opportunities to test the quality of present-day preaching. As a result, he raises quite seriously the questions: ""Is preaching outmoded? Is it necessary?"" He finds many of the sermons one hears or reads completely irrelevant to man's present-day situation. As correctives he recommends associating sermons with the liturgical year and with carefully planned and ordered Biblical preaching. He offers no ""gimmick"", no sample sermons- his book goes deeper than that and expounds the philosophy underlying the proper place of preaching in the Christian Church. Accordingly, a reading of this book will lead the preacher into a deeper understanding of what he should be about when he stands in the pulpit.
