A nostalgic feathers and fine laces novel for girls, set in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1878. This is the story of two sisters, but principally eighteen-year-old Margaret Dare, who in spite of the family's straightened circumstances, had dreams of being a fine lady, setting her heart on marrying a man with money and position.
