If the title reminds you of a Joan Walsh Anglund nosegay, so will the sentiments inside: examples of good fathering which reiterate that time ""is the single most appreciated trait of One Neat Dad."" As in columnist/minister Shedd's other books (Smart Dads I Know, The Best Dad Is a Good Lover), the citations are both homegrown and reader-contributed, the advice vanilla-flavored. ""If you study hard enough, work hard enough, and pray hard enough, you can be almost anything you want to be."" ""A father's job is not to make his children a success. It is to take the time to prepare the way so they can make themselves successful."" Wonder-bread homilies, spiritually sound but hardly bracing.
