THE RETURN OF THE THUNDERBIRD by Charlotte Baker

Carrying off her melodrama with even greater aplomb than she did in The Venture of the ""Thunderbird"", Charlotte Baker continues the adventures of Roy and Jerry Lacey, two young Virginians whose father's murder was plotted by their tutor, Mr. Morris, and their dastardly cousin Audley. Under the pretext of helping the boys make their fortunes, Audley had outfitted the Thunderbird a China trade clipper, and then absconded with the ship after abandoning Roy and Jerry in South America and Alaska respectively. Now the reunited boys' chase leads them to Hawaii, China, Batavia and home, as well as to the capture of Audley, Morris and even their own stepmother (who had plotted with Morris all along). Emotionally heavy handed but with firm touches of suspense and period atmosphere.
