KIRKUS REVIEW

This is a different kind of book for the fast growing shelf on aviation, and a book that has not only value for anyone interested in various aspects of the subject, but special interest for boys who want to prepare themselves at low cost for intensive training in the not far distant future. Gliding and soaring are -- it seems -- a growing sport, with instructors and facilities almost everywhere. This book presents all facets of the subject, -- history, value in sport, in war (demonstrated too well by Germany in Crete), in defense, in training of pilots prior to putting them in motor powered machines, and a general coverage of types, construction and design. An appendix giving regulations, organizations, legislation and manufacturers.
