The author of The Fitfiddles Keep Fit (1963, p. 356, J-122) has created a fantasy about an only child -- button-eyed and flat in the pictures-- who receives a lamb for Easter. A bandy-legged, brown clad dwarf, Buttons, claims the lamb. He takes Red Ridinghood along to the head dwarf who declares she must beat Buttons at the game of her choice to receive her lamb. She chooses marbles and wins. The easy-to-read text is low in interest and the only discernible connection that the publisher-labeled ""Easter story"" has with the holiday is the fact of the lamb as a gift.
