TOMBOY'S DOLL

Pub Date: Feb. 24th, 1969

Mary Louise, better known as Tommy, gives her new doll a rough time--uses her as a shuttlecock and a scarecrow, ties her to a dog for a ride, to a fishing line for a swim--until, lost momentarily in the woods, she is comforted by clutching Amanda to her. Then, for the first time, she attends to Amanda's toilette and takes her to bed. The lesson that Tommy must learn--""how to play with dolls""--is stated over and over, as if there were only one proper way; how much wiser is Impunity Jane.
