More lighthearted than Price or Hubbard but still a highly useful guide to the purchase of country property in which Collins includes a good deal of generally unintimidating information, particularly concerning financing. Although his loan recommendations stretch to institutions like the Farmer's Home Administration and the Federal Land Bank -- this may bother straitlaced city realtors and their brainwashees -- there are obviously many paths up to the old homestead. The author races through the essentials -- land and building evaluation, water, electricity, etc. -- and there are tips -- such as how to hold your own at an auction and how to save money (""Use clouds instead of TV""). There may be those who would prefer an alternative title to the sewage section (""Ka-Ka Pooey"") but the more irreverent seeker of the good earth -- with some collateral -- will be instructed.
