KIRKUS REVIEW

There have been individual stories of the American fliers, based in England (such as Yankee in a Spitfire and the records of the Eagle Squadron) but this, I believe, is the first allover picture of our own United States Eighth Air Force generally known as the First Wing. The daylight side of the bombing of Nazi Europe has a good advocate in this book which catches the spirit of the challenge, the quality of the men, the sense of team play in the First Wing. The authors present every phase of the job and they let the actual incidents and the men themselves tell the story. There is plenty of the technical aide of precision bombing for the armchair strategist; but it's the human interest side that makes Skyways to Berlin a vital book.
