WHAT TO TELL YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT SEX

By

Publisher: Duell, Sloan & Pearce

This is a brief and reassuring outline about what to expect of children in terms of sexual awareness from birth to adolescence. The authors' recognition of the discomfort and uneasiness that many parents bring to the responsibility of sex education has allowed them to anticipate the questions that adults, faced with the task, often ask too. From early childhood through the teen years, every broad stage of development is given a section. Each is introduced with a few general remarks about the social and emotional level common to the age group. These are followed by a list of the questions to be expected and the reasonable answers to be given. Throughout the book the authors urge honesty within the bounds of each age group's ability to understand. The question/answer arrangement offers parents a brush up course on the technical and anatomical terms and descriptions of conception, pregnancy and delivery. There is a list of other helpful books on this subject.
