KIRKUS REVIEW

Another Anais Nin she's not. What she is, by gosh, is a writer who found a way to get excerpts from un-publishable journals published. ""Ahhhh, the chicken coop. I love to gather eggs, stooping down around the nests. I like the smell of hot shit, hay, and hens. The eggs are magically warm in my hands."" The pretext: that journal writing is therapeutic, that ""flow writing"" like the above can, by evoking the scenes of a vanished childhood, bring us closer to ""the mantra of I am!"" Baldwin is a counselor who runs six-week seminars in journal writing as a route to enlightenment. But, really, all you need is a notebook and a pencil. You can do it yourself, without Baldwin.
