THE CAP THAT MOTHER MADE

That ""cap that Mother made"" is so precious to Anders that he won't trade it for anything, even King Olaf's crown--a sentimental attachment only slightly more comprehensible than why everyone wants it, ordinary-looking as it is, or why for that matter Westerberg didn't draw it to more closely fit her description (the ""reindeer marching all around the edge"" looks like a couple of ermine tails). But this is dilute of folk-tale in any case, with eau de Sendak pictures.
