The creators of Cowboy Bunnies (1997) take another long-eared troupe to a higher frontier, with a text modeled on “Twinkle twinkle little star”—“Astro bunnies / See a star / Think they’d like to / Go that far”—and roughed-out bunny shapes rocketing through an array of abstract stippled or patterned backgrounds. Unlike Nancy Coffelt’s Dogs in Space (1993), the cosmology here is fanciful: “Over Venus / Under Mars / Bunnies follow / Shooting stars” to gather moon dust, chart weather, and ultimately to meet three-eared bunnies from “another place.” As is only right, the bunnies end their adventures by coming home. The gentle, almost soporific rhyme begs to be read at bedtime or quiet times. Let this launch young astronauts into dream voyages of their own. (Picture book. 3-7)
