``One child'' puts on ``two slippers'' and is greeted by ``three muffins'' at breakfast, then uses ``four crayons'' to make ``five drawings,'' and so on through a day that ends with ``nine books'' and ``ten yawns'' (labeled with Arabic numerals in their one appearance here). The appealing mop-top preschooler, outlined in bold black, is cheerful except when confronted with ``eight string beans.'' (There are kids who like veggies.) An above-average board book.
