A better book than most of hers, with the moral uplift subordinated to the story, which is based on the bulwark of fundamental values, unobtrusively worked in. It is the story of a child of divorce, of loyalties in constant clash, of lack of security, of a boyhood and youth wrecked by an embittered observance of his parents' mistakes. Finally, he comes through his scepticism of the possibility of love to a realization that he and Babs, a childhood playmate, can profit by what they have witnessed and make a successful marriage. Conservative confectionery -- with a touch more substance than the usual -- and good humans-in-conflict reading.
