The well-known playwright has developed a minimum of drama, imagination and humor in this slight story. A little boy is lonely because he lives only with his uncle on board a fishing boat. But on a dark day, a foghorn attracts him to another boat, where he meets and becomes friendly with a girl of his own age. The illustrations are all done in slate grays and blues and are much more effective than the text in capturing the mood.
