A Crime Club selection for a fast paced mystery romance. A better integrated yarn than Midsummer Nightmare (July) which I felt hung out more red rags than it needed. In this all the threads are neatly tied together, through the joint agency of the impeccable Inspector French, and that depository of community secrets and gossip, Mr. Izenga. A series of stranglings have involved the members of a sacrosanct family, the members hating each other but protecting their good name. Inheritance angles -- stolen jewels -- and sex -- all play their part. Locale-Michigan; time-the present. Better story plotting than styling.
