A fine collection of folk material which gives a faithful picture of types and living conditions, customs and traditions, prejudices and pastimes. Many of the contributors are well known, -- Archibald Rutledge, Harry Kroll, Charles Morrow Wilson, Josephine Johnson. All, whether through legend, story, sketch, portrait, make real to their readers little known people of remote, indigenous or alien communities. The Arkansas Ozarks, the hop pickers of the Northwest, the South Carolinian Negro, fox hunters and Hungarian harvesters, sharecroppers, Indians, lumberjacks and oil men, Mississippi Delta French and Chicago lowlife, Hexes and witchwomen. The story of Josephine Johnson, The Foxes Have Holes, is tops of a good collection.
