Diecuts, pop-ups and pull-tabs make this happy brown dog’s titular morning quite a romp. Bosco’s narration is supplemented by comments from a Greek chorus of insects and suchlike, drawing readers’ attention to various parts of the busy layout. “Bosco runs fast,” says a snail; “I see five little pink flowers,” says a ladybug. The slight story concerns Bosco and his cat friend Pepper’s pursuit of three giggling mice across yards and to a playground. Ingenious flaps and tabs allow the mice to escape in sometimes spectacular fashion. Flat perspectives and simple, bright colors work well with the crisp paper cuts to tell the story and keep eyes engaged. If the end is something of a non sequitur (why can’t the mice go to the playground, too?), the outing is nevertheless good fun. (Pop-up. 2-4)
