In an act of Christian witness, Chulho Awe tells his story of survival after he refused to join the Communist Party in deference to his religious belief. A North Korean, he sacrificed in this move both the honor of being one of five Labor Heroes in the nation (as reward for his work as an engineer) and his personal safety. Instead of being a Hero, he was hunted as a dangerous reactionary. Imprisoned, he escaped precariously, hiding in Pyongyang, in the mountains where he rededicated himself to God, in the South after the liberation proved false, and finally on the island of Cheju-do, where his mission awaited him-- the people, fearing snake gods, were eager to learn of Christ. Simple and sincere, the handling is for those who are also confirmed in their faith and the market is primarily a religious one.
