An Indian raid and massacre hits the Burton family where it hurts for Sam's second wife is a Kiowa whose son, Pacer, and his half-brother, Clint, give her full loyalty and love. There are local reprisals when Clint refuses to join the white against the Kiowas; the herd is stampeded; the mother is killed by a white survivor of a raid; Pacer lines up with the Indians. Clint, riding to avenge Sam's killing by the Kiowas, is saved by Pacer and Pacer's death gives him an answer for his future. An almighty blood-letting for a different handling of the white-redskin theme.
