ENUK, MY SON

Somewhere in the expansive, thinly drawn, lightly washed illustrations a youngster is apt to get lost--or lose interest--long before Enuk, after many preparations and much waiting, shares in the successful harpooning of a whale and the four-day feast of celebration. There's a soft sunny/frosty handsomeness about this, and vigor in some of the details, but little that fixes attention or thrusts forward. It's commendable in its feel for Eskimo life, however--just an inadequate vehicle.
