AUGUSTUS

With Mrs. Bishop's original story of the calf that ran away to see the world, and how he nearly fell victim to the butcher's greed (must have been a black marketeer!) and of how a chance happening in on the rehearsal for a Christmas pageant saved his hide -- and with Grace four-color illustrations on every page, here is another good holiday gift book. There are bits of the story that a too sensitive child might not like, but most children enjoy a few shudders, I think, and there is plenty of comic relief, for all the slight overtones for adult appreciation (references to Ariadne's thread etc.) Picture story age and on up to second and third grade level.
