TWENTY-TWO BEARS

After claiming that 22 bears were seen in the wilds of Wyoming, the narrator attempts to account for each one. The number of brown bruins increases by one on each page, and, although they look very like one another, each bear is distinctive by virtue of his habits, talents, etc. Certain lines are repeated throughout becoming a lulling refrain. Kurt Wiese's free manner of drawing animals is much in evidence here. As each bear is added, the surprise begins to wear out, but the last bear, a stuffed bear, ""is YOUR bear"" for a final pleasure.
