HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

A big Christmas anthology, this has been thoughtfully collected and arranged by Claire Huchet Bishop whose own stories for young people, many of them inspirational in content, speak for the quality here. Short stories, poems, legends and songs have been included and the range is from biblical passages to modern juvenile willing. Old French Carols, the Magnificat, Anne Carroll Moora's Christma's Forty of the New York Public Library, a selection from Hugo's Les Miserables poems by Rossetti, Drinkwater and Blake- these indicate the richness and variety of a collection that is sure to find many seasonal buyers as well as those who will consider it a book of lasting value for children. The illustrations are line drawings by Ellen Raskin and at the end of the book are two very helpful lists, one of recorded Christmas music and another of places where prints of Christmas paintings may be obtained.
