ROXANA

By

Publisher: Harper

Good entertainment value -- humor -- and a girl for his central character this time. Roxana decides that brains -- in evidence --are a liability, and conceals hers under a veneer of feminine wiles. She practices on the small town youths, then uproots her amusing and philosophic grandmother and turns up in New York to take possession of an uncle who runs a down-at-the-heels restaurant. Native wit, a flair for publicity (some of it goes sour on her) and ingenuity win out -- and she finally gets the man she loves. Society life on Long Island, prize fights, the betting racket, nightclubs, inside line on newspaper publicity -- a varied fare and thoroughly amusing.
